Our coach is back from his long overdue holiday in Russia. He spend 50 wonderful days in his motherland and returned safely this morning. On behalf of CSG we would like to welcome him back and thank all our friends in Russia, especially Feirus, for making his visit so pleasant. I believe he can’t wait to get back to his wrestlers and he will see you all tonight. 

Welkom terug by die “Home of Champions”

 Namens bestuur wil ons net vir al ons ou en nuwe stoeiers verwelkom na die baie lang vakansie. Ons hoop almal het goed gerus en is reg vir ‘n baie opwindende stoeijaar wat voorlê. Ons sien uit daarna om ons klub nog groter en beter te maak, en steeds die pas aan te gee in SA stoei. Daar is ook wêreld klas stoei by die Olimpiese spele om na uit te sien! So vir al die stoeiers wat nog nie hierdie jaar kom oefen het nie, jy beter spring, jy raak agter.

Ons hoop en vertrou almal by CSG gaan 2012 saam geniet.

Welkom terug 2012

Centurion Bestuur verwelkom alamal terug na die vakansie en hoop almal het die feesgety oorleef, en sien uit om weer te begin oefen.  Ons sien uit om julle almal op Maandag 9 Januarie weer by die Matsportsentrum te verwelkom.

Centurion Stoei Gimnasium Jaarafsluiting

Centurion het 'n besondere suksesvolle 2011 afgesluit en erkenning gegee aan almal wat die jaar so suksesvol gemaak het, in 'n baie aangename jaareindfunksie op 19 November. Nie alleen het die klub teruggekyk na al die prestasies wat die klub bereik het nie, maar ook die stoeiers wat besonderse bydrae gelewer het vereer. (FOTO's HIER)

Noord Gauteng Jaarafsluiting: Centurion vereer

Centurion is die naweek deur Noord Gauteng Stoei beloon met verskeie trofee na 'n jaar propvol uitstekende prestasies. Spesiale melding aan Christo Labuschagne en Francois de Wit wat "Stoeier van die jaar" in hulle onderskeie kategorie is. Ons is almal baie trots op julle!

Liga uitslae verras - Centurion wen oortuigend

Noord Gauteng se liga wat Saterdag 29 Oktober in die NG-Stoeisaal plaasgevind het, het vir 'n groot verrassing gesorg toe Tuks laaste in die A-Liga ge-eindig het.  Soos in die verlede het die A-Liga puik stoei en baie strawwe kompetisie opgelewer. Centurion het op die einde maklik gewen met Menlopark in die tweede plek.

Centurion se span het pragtig vertoon in hulle Pitbull T-hempies, maar op die mat was dit die tegniek en vasbyt wat die deurslag gegee het. Gemeet aan die luide toejuiging van die skare, het almal dit baie geniet.

Centurion het Menlopark 17-10 en Tuks 24-8 geklop om die A-liga vir die tweede jaar in 'n ry oortuigend te wen. Menlopark het Tuks onder luide aanmoediging 18-13 geklop om die tweede plek in te neem.

Coaches Report

Saturday was a very good day for Centurion wrestling and a highlight of 2011, when our league team won the NG A-League for the second successive year. The CSG boys wrestled with big hearts and the way that they performed against formidable opponents like Tuks and Menlopark, was proof of their courage and determination. To lose only two matches against Tuks was very impressive. Congratulations to Menlopark for finishing second and winning the tough match against Tuks. It was the upset of the tournament. On behalf of Centurion I want to thank everybody from CSG who supported our club, especially Marcel and Shamil for their planning. Thanks to all our competitors for their good sportsmanship throughout the year. A very big thanks to our sponsor for making our wrestlers to look like champions, and NG for a well run tournament, to make it a morning event was a brilliant idea. Centurion Liga Span bekend gemaak - 19 Oktober

Центурион готова победить в Первой лиге

Die Noord Gauteng Liga vind plaas op Saterdag 29 Oktober 2011 in die Noord Gauteng Stoeisaal, en stoeiers moet vanaf 7h00 reeds inweeg. Die Liga is as volg opgedeel:

• A-liga: Centurion, TUKS, Menlopark
• B-liga: Reitz, Rustenburg, Akasia
• C-liga: Moot, Johan Theron, Zenzele (Soshanguve), Kiesling

Die CSG liga span wat vanjaar aan die A-liga teen Tuks en Menlopark gaan deelneem is bekendgemaak, en staan vanjaar bekend as die Centurion Pitbulls. Soos Mark Twain gesê het "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".  Centurion het in 2010 die A-liga gewen, en hoop om dit weer die jaar te doen.

Ons leuse is "NEVER SURRENDER"

Centurion Coach Proud

Centurion had a very good SA's this year, as you know we won 15 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals. We have five new SA champs in the club, Liam, RW, Divan, Herkie and Riku. RW is also our first wrestler from the schools program to have won SA's. In just over two years the schools wrestling has helped us to find our first SA champion and there are many more to come. 

I am very proud of Riku for the way he wrestled he showed big character in winning his first SA title. Owen made us very proud by winning his fifth consecutive SA title, he wrestled like a real champion. I was also very pleased with the way our juniors wrestled.  

Overall I and Shamil are very proud of the way our boys wrestled and we concratulate all our champions. Unfortunitly some of our best wrestlers could not wrestle SA's and we could have had even better results.  Good luck to all our wrestlers now going to national trails and liga.

Centurion Wrestlers a force to be reckoned with at SA’s 2011

No less than 28 wrestlers from Centurion qualified this year to represent their region at the South African National Freestyle Wrestling Championships for 2011 (SA’s 2011).  They will be competing in 31 categories for the crown as SA Freestyle Champion and the bronze, silver and gold medals. The championships will be held over 3 days, from 6 to 8 October in the Wembley Arena in Johannesburg.

On the first day of the competition, CSG have already produced six national champions.  Congratulations to Liam Kuperus, RW (Erwee) van der Wal, Herkie Coetzee, Divan Immelman, Ernst Bester and Owen Cilliers. Runners up, with Silver medals were Mika Lemkuhl, Bula Coetzee and Brandon Kidson, with Hein Coetzee coming home with a bronze.  With 10 medals on the first day of the championships, Centurion club is rightfully proud of their achievements.

Friday's highlights were a gold from Francois De Wit, Reynhardt Louw, Riku Rossouw, Estian Fourie, Bokang Masuenyane, Johan Potgieter and Christo Labuschagne and Bronze from Wessel Jordaan and Johan van Niekerk.

On Saturday the Gold came from Bokang Masuenyane and Francois de Wit, Silver from Christo Labuschagne,  Albert Louw and Louis Minnaar.

Centurion club therefore produced 15 Freestyle National Champions, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze - a total of 24 medals. Centurion also produced more SA Champions than all provinces, except Gauteng North - well done CSG and congratulations to all wrestlers, coaches, and everyone who made this all possible!

Add to this the 2 Presidents National Champions and 7 Greco-Roman National Champions, and Centurion proudly boasts 24 national wrestling champions in 2011 - well done!

CSG New Management elected

In the Annual General Meeting of 29 September, members of CSG elected new management for 2012. The outgoing management will continue with their duties until the Year-end function, and take time to hand over to their successors. Congratulations to:

FILA Afrigterskursusse vir 2011

Daar word vanjaar weer drie FILA kursusse aangebied, een kursus in elke styl. Die kursusse vind op die volgende datums en tye plaas.

• Vrystyl vir Vroue vind plaas vanaf 3-6 November 2011 in Antalya, Turkye.
• Vrystyl vir Mans vind plaas vanaf 17-20 November 2011 in Tehran, Iran.
• Grieks-Romeins vind plaas vanaf 1-4 Desember 2011 in Rome, Italië.

SASAR vra dat klubs nominasies vir bogenoemde kursusse sal instuur. Afrigters moet reeds SA Vlak 3 gradering he. Die nominasies moet teen Maandag 3 Oktober 2011 om 12:00 die Afrigtersraad bereik.

Streek Kampioenskappe 24 September 2011

CSG het baie goed presteer op die 2011 Streek-kampioenskappe (SA Streek 3) wat in die Noord Gauteng Stoeisaal plaasgevind het op 24 September 2011. CSG het 14 Goud,  5 Silwer en twee Brons medaljes verower. Baie geluk aan:

Alle stoeiers wat 1-4de plek op die Streek-kampioenskappe behaal het kwalifiseer om in te skryf vir die SA Jeug Kampioenskappe, waar hulle teen die beste stoeiers van die ander streke sal meeding in ons land se Nasionale Kampioenskappe. Baie geluk aan die 22 stoeiers van Centurion!

2011 World Senior Wrestling Championships - Turkey

The Senior Wrestling World Championships was completed.  It was organized by the Turkish Wrestling Federation and took place in the SINAN ERDEM Arena – ATAKÖY - ISTANBUL from 12 September to 18 September 2011. Wrestling took place in Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Women's categories:

• MEN: 55, 60, 66, 74, 84, 96, 120 kg
• WOMEN: 48, 51, 55, 59, 63, 67, 72 kg

Some big teams have been entered by:

• UKRAINE  33
• RUSSIA    32
• BULGARIA 29
• USA         29

South Africa entered 4 qualified wrestlers:

•  BARNES                  Heinrich     LL 66 KG  (18 Sept) who was placed 40th after he lost to Livan Lopez Ascuy from Cuba (Bronze) who lost to Mehdi Kermani (who won the group) from Iran.
  
•  ADDINALL               Richard      LL 74 KG  (18 Sept) was placed 29th after losing his first round bout to Crepaz Phillipp van Austria.
  
•  VAN HUYSSTEEN     Etienne      LL 96 KG  (17 Sept) was placed 19th after he won his first round bout against Takao Isokawa from Japan, but lost in the second round against Sinivie Boltic from Nigeria who ended 5th.
  
•  HUGUES                  Bella Lufu  GR 96 KG (12 Sept) was placed 29th. (Lost in first GR round to David VALA from Czech Republic, who was then beaten by Arthur ALEKSANYAN from Armenia)
  

The first 6 places in every category secures an entry for their country in that category for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Russia is leading the medals.

Gauteng North Championships - Saturday 3 September

The most important Championships for the clubs in a province are the annual provincial championships, and in the case of Gauteng North, these championships were held on Saturday 3 September. 

With 48 entries Centurion Wrestlers had a big impact on the championships, taking home 24 Gold (with Jano), 7 Silver and 2 Bronze medals (official results here...). All wrestlers who won gold and where there were more than 2 wrestlers in the category, will get Gauteng North Colours. Congratulations to all wrestlers who now qualify for the GN Colours * and well done Centurion!

Not only is this fantastic result very prestigeous for the club, but it also qualifies the wrestlers to go to the Regional Championships (24 September) and the SA National Freestyle Championships that will be held 6-8 October to determine our National Freestyle Champions. Additionally, Jacques Bode and Luco Meyer has been included into the CSG team trough special permission from GN Management to wrestle in Regional Championships. Johan Potgieter, Ruben Stidwell, Wessel Jordaan, Christiaan Schultz and Tertius Van Lelyveld handed in doctors letters for a variety of ailments and we hope that they will be sufficiently recovered to take part. Congratulations and we wish you all the best of luck.

SA Gradering Kampioenskappe 21 & 22 Oktober

Die 2012 SA Gradering vind reeds in 2011 plaas, en op 21 & 22 Oktober.  Alle stoeiers wat Suid Afrika op oorsese toere wil verteenwoordig moet asseblief vir gradering inskryf, en onthou om 'n geldige paspoort te toon. Meer hier...

Unicor Ope - Saterdag 27 Augustus

Die UNICOR ope het die naweek plaasgevind in die Noord Gauteng Stoeisaal in Menlyn. Ongeveer 20 CSG stoeiers het ingeskryf vir die toernooi. 

CSG het 9 Goud, 3 Silver, 5 Brons en 'n 4de plek behaal. Baie geluk met julle pragtige prestasies. Dankie aan Unicor vir 'n heerlike toernooi.

Tawwe Tienies

Ongeveer 'n honderd en vyftig Tawwe Tienie stoeiers van tien verskillende skole en hulle ouers het Centurion Stoei Gimnasium toegepak. Daar was letterlik nie plek vir 'n muis nie. Weereens kon mens sien hoe baie geniet kinders van 5 tot 8 jaar oud die beste sport in die wêreld. Die talent was ongelooflik en daar is baie hoop vir die toekoems van stoei. Tawwe Tienies wil ook baie dankie sê aan Centurion Stoei Gimnasium vir die gebruik van die saal en al die ouers van CSG wat gehelp het om die aand moontlik te maak, dit word opreg waardeer. Aan al die Tawwe Tienie stoeiers en hulle ouers, baie dankie vir julle ondersteuning en ons maak volgende kwartaal weer so. Fila World Cadet Wrestling Championships

For the first time in 10 years Fila's held a Cadet World Wrestling Championships which began on 23 August 2011 in Szombathely (Hungary). The young athletes competed until 28 August 2011.  More than 600 wrestlers from around the world, representing 50 countries are entered for this competition, and sadly not a single South African among them.

New wrestling mat for Centurion

Centurion wrestlers are elated with their new 12m x 12m mat.  The interlocking 50mm hi density mat will replace the current 35mm mat that has served the club so well since Noah used it on the Ark. Although the need was identified to replace the mat quite a few years ago, finances did not allow until now. CSG again wants to thank our sponsors  GroCapital,  Remax and Profert, who's generous contributions for our tournament made this possible.

Nasionale Oefening Kennisgewing

Die Nasionale oefening wat geskeduleer is vir elke Woensdag in die PWV gebied sal eers weer na die Gradering in Oktober maand begin. Daar sal dus geen nasionale oefening tot dan plaasvind nie. Die nuwe oefenskedule sal na die Gradering in Oktober bekend gemaak word.

SAWF commits to develop LTPD Plans

As part of the "First wave",  fourteen National Sport Federations have completed a process of developing sport specific Long Term Participant Development (LTPD) plans. Now SAWF too, has committed to the process of LTPD. The SAWF has signed up for the “Second wave” of LTPD, in which seventeen more Federations will develop their LTPD plans, which has now become a prerequisite of SASCOC for continued support towards the Federations consideration for Olympic participation.

The LTPD is about achieving optimal training, competition and recovery throughout an athlete’s career, particularly in relation to the important growth and development years of young people. LTPD is athlete centered, coach driven, administration, sports science and sponsor supported.

According to Nico Coetzee, Chairman of the SAWF coaches committee, LTPD is a philosophy through which we can establish optimal performance, growth and development of athletes in order to obtain a value system which is representative of the aspirations of the whole nation of South Africa.

Bond vir Oud-stoeiers op Facebook! 

Oud-stoeiers word uitgenooi om op Facebook aan te sluit by Noord Gauteng Bond van Oud-stoeiers.  Die bond is nie net vir oud stoeiers nie, maar ook vir oud Noord-Gauteng (Noord-Transvaal) -beamptes, afrigters, admin-beamptes, spanbestuurders en enige ander ampsdraers. Die doel is om die stoei gemeenskap van Noord-Gauteng weer te herenig en ‘n kommunikasie netwerk in werking te stel om o.a. die sport ook te bemark. Dankie  Sharon!

Amateur Wrestling Styles simplified

Amateur wrestling is decended from an ancient form of the sport dating back about 5000 years, and is the most widespread form of sport wrestling today. There are two international wrestling styles performed in the Olympic Games under the supervision of FILA (Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées or International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles): Greco-Roman and Freestyle. Freestyle is possibly derived from the English Lancashire style.  A similar style, commonly called Collegiate (also known as Scholastic or Folk-style), is practiced in colleges,  universities and schools in the United States. Grappling is a collection of lesser known wrestling disciplines or styles. Scientific Wrestling (aka Catch-As-Catch-Can wrestling, or Catch Wrestling) is a distinctly American and Western European style of grappling and set of rules where the winner is determined by submission or pin.
