  WHO ARE WE?

We at Centurion Wrestling Gymnasium (Afrikaans: Centurion Stoei Gimnasium) or CSG aim to serve the wrestling community of the greater Centurion, Pretoria and Midrand area.  We serve various schools in our area and quite a large community of young people.  Our aim is to develop wrestlers of excellent technique, strength and fitness, and to equip them with the skill to compete with success in National and International competitions.

We are situated at the Mat Sport Centre in Eldoraigne at the corner of Edwards and Ireland streets and have three mats available for practices. We practice 4 days a week, Mon to Thursday, and do this in two sessions.

We are fortunate to have the services of two full-time professional coaches, Alibeg and Shamil Vechedov who’s wrestling knowledge is simply astounding.  They are supported by Multiple SA and Commonwealth Champion Martin van Staden, Multiple SA Champion Jaco van Staden, Eric van Eeden, SA Referee Johan Smit and Yolanda Coetzer, who’s father was one of the people who initiated the club in the 1970s.

At the beginning of the 2010 season we had 124 registered wrestlers which makes us one of the biggest clubs in south Africa.

Practice times are from Monday to Thursday 17:00 till 18:00 for beginners and 18:00 till 20:00 for more experienced wrestlers.  Club fees are R360-00 per month (free for 3rd wrestlers from the same family and free for students!)

We are proud to be the club who produced excellent wrestlers like Johan Potgieter, Jacques Rossouw, Jaco and Martin Van Staden and Kurt Botha.  We also contributed to many other wrestlers from South Africa who now wrestle based in other countries. They have all competed internationally and excelled.  We also produced many regional champions and 7 Freestyle National Junior champions a Senior Ladies Freestyle Champion and  in 2009.

Martin Van Staden had already tasted gold at the Commonwealth Youth Wrestling tournament and the Braveheart Tournament in Scotland as well as the Michigan State Tournament in 2005.

We embrace all wrestlers, and actively encourage and assist wrestlers from disadvantaged communities.  We hope to provide an institution that can serve the potential abilities of all wrestlers at our club.  We believe that it takes time to develop a great wrestler, and everyone must be developed at a pace that will take them the furthest.

VISION STATEMENT
Centurion Wrestling Gymnasium’s vision is to deliver wrestlers of South African National and International quality in order to be perceived as the “First Choice Wrestling Club”  and thereby become the National leader in the amateur wrestling community and a partner in promoting wrestling, Nationally and Internationally.
