Wrestling Excellence at Unicor Open 
Wrestlers from the Centurion Wrestling Gymnasium made everybody at the club very proud with excellent performances at the annual Unicor Open Tournament held in the NG Wrestling Hall in Menlopark on 28 August. CSG won 16 Gold, 8 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Congratulations to our Gladiators, and a big thanks to Unicor for a well run tournament.
This was the last local open tournament before wrestlers embark on the "Road to SA Championships" for 2010, where the provincial and regional championships will be the hurdles to pass.

Nico Visser Beginnerstoernooi Uitslae
Slegs 'n dosyn stoeiers van CSG het deelgeneem aan die Nico Visser beginnerstoernooi aangebied deur Noord Gauteng stoei, en met 10 medaljes teruggekeer, voorwaar 'n uitmuntende prestasie vir ons jong en onervare stoeiers. Hou gerus die vordering van hierdie ontwikkelende kampioene dop. Bestuur, beamptes en afrigters wil graag hierdie stoeiertjies baie geluk wens, en in besonder aan:
- Brendin Louw, Jan Potgieter, Ruben van Wyk, Jacques Bode, Wiaan Crous, Rianco Langeveld, Jock de Jager en Henno Koekemoer vir hulle goue medaljes,

Commonwealth Games in October 2010
The culturally rich Indian city of New Delhi, home to 14 million people, will host the 
Commonwealth Games from 3 - 14 October 2010. This will be the first time India has hosted the Games.
The following sports will be represented:
Archery, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling!

Centurion wen Johnny Reitz "Big 5" Wrestling Tournament - 7 August
Dit behoort niemand te verbaas om te hoor dat Centurion die algehele wenners was van die toernooi nie. Met 24 Goue, 10 Silwer en 9 Brons medaljes, asook 4 Vierde plekke, het CSG baie goed presteer. Baie geluk aan die stoeiers en afrigters by Centurion Stoei Gimnasium! Die JRB5 is een van van die grootste toernooie van die jaar, puik aangebied deur Noord Gauteng Stoei (NGS) op Saterdag 7 Augustus by die Rembrand-saal, LC De Villiers Sportgronde in Pretoria. Daar was 579 inskrywings, waarvan 57 afkomstig vanaf CSG - pragtige ondersteuning!

Die toernooi lok jaarliks stoeiers van regoor die wêreld, en die medaljes beeld elke jaar 'n ander een van ons "Groot Vyf" uit - hierdie jaar - Renoster. Wenners van al 5 goue medaljes ontvang ook 'n hout staander waarin die medaljes uitgestal kan word.

Centurion hosts wrestling teams from Oregon (USA) and Namibia
The 12 touring wrestlers and their coaches from Oregon, USA and a group from Namibia will be the guests of Centurion Wrestling Gymnasium for a few days around the Johnny Reitz Big 5 tournament, where they were staying with our wrestling families and at our club, enjoying Centurion hospitality. We hope that they have enjoyed their stay in South Africa and especially with us. We trust that our friends from Oregon had a great time visiting the Pilansberg Game Reserve, and wrestling with the cream of South Africa's wrestlers.

Dat stoei die band tussen pa en seun versterk, is maar waar. Stoeiers het ook afleiding nodig, en as daar ‘n Satedag nie gestoei word nie, waar beter as om ‘n paar dae in die jagveld saam te spandeer - als natuurlik ter voorberiding van die "Big 5" wat voorlê!

Remember Zikrula?
Remember Zikrula Dadaev, one of the Russian wrestlers from Dagestan that Centurion Wrestling Gimnasium brought to South Africa in 2008, and winner of the Big 5 and SA Presidents of that year – well Zikrula won the O/50 Freestyle division at the Fila World Junior Championships in Budapest 2010. Congratulations Zikrula!

Een van CSG se meer ervare stoeiers, Eric van Eeden het aan die 2010 Meesters Wêreldkampioenskap in Domdidier Switserland deelgeneem. Ons verneem dat Eric ongelukkig na al die moeite, voorbereiding en onkostes, in die eerste rondte uitgeskakel is en die pyn van die enkel-eliminasie-formaat (FILA) eerstehands beleef het.
Ten bate van ons “Meestersfonds” het ons 'n Rooibok (Impala) uitgeloot. Die Rooibok gaan gejag word op Eric se plaas naby Vaalwater in die Waterberge, of die wenner kan kies om net die biltong te ontvang. Die trekking het plaasgevind by CSG op Donderdag aand 22 Julie, en die gelukkige wenner is...

Baie geluk en dankie vir almal vir die ondersteuning.
FILA Lotingsproses vir SA Kampioenskappe goedgekeur.
Die Fila Loting stelsel word deur die SASF Uitvoerende Bestuur aanbeveel vir S.A. Kampioenskappe van die Kadette, Juniors en Seniors, angesien hierdie stoeiers Internasionaal deelneem waar hierdie lotingsproses gebruik word. Op die vergadering van 21 Augustus is hierdie lotingstelsel ook goedgekeur. Die FILA enkel-eliminasie-formaat word ge kenmerk deur die beginsel dat stoeiers elimineer word indien hulle een keer verloor, en word gekompliseer deur 'n "repechage" proses waar kompeteerders wat deur die eindelike finaliste uitgeskakel is, uitstoei vir derde en vierde plek, en daarom is daar in sommige kompetisies twee brons medaljes.
Russian Wrestling Camp 2010 - Huge success
The Wrestling training camp organised by Centurion from 5 to 9 July was a fantastic success. Attended by about 50 wrestlers, there was an abundance of personal attention and they learned a lot of new moves, defences, throws and holds. Thanks to Victor, Mingiyan, Basang and Oleg for sharing their knowledge, their dedication to the sport, and their kindness and patience with our young wrestlers.
We are looking forward to surprizing our opponents with some of the moves we learned at SA's this year!
Hoodies SALE
The very famous and fashionable Centurion Wrestling hoodies are now on sale. The 2010 version of this warm favourite comes in grey with red trim, and only a limited number was custom made.
Problems with some sizes necks has now been corrected.

SA Senior Stoeiers sukkel in Spanje
Die span senior stoeiers van Suid Afrika wat in Madrid, Spanje aan die "Gran Premio de Espana" deelgeneem het, het te doen gekry met strawwe kompetisie, en het nie besonder goed gevaar nie, maar nogtans 3 Brons medaljes verower. Daar word wel berig dat hulle 'n aangename tyd in Spanje gehad het, en dat hulle goeie ondervinding opgedoen het. Baie Geluk aan Zumike, Gerald en Heindrich.

Centurion wins big at Winter Open!
Centurion club made a big impact at the Winter Open which was held at the Wembley Indoor Stadium on Saturday 10 July. By winning 25 Gold medals, 11 Silver and 5 Bronze, Centurion also won the tournament. Congratulations to all the wrestlers, and a big thanks to Oleg Korzuev who impressed with his professional, world-class refereeing.
Centurion's Alibeg Vechedov Open Tournament 3 July 2010 - resounding success! 
Centurion club is proud of the way that the Alibeg Vechedov Open Tournament was run on Saturday 3 July 2010 at the Matsport-Centre on the corner of Edward and Ireland Streets Wierda Park Centurion. The gymnasts from the Matsport Centre entertained the crowd with polished routines while the kitchen, administration and the wrestling ran like clockwork.
The club president, Roelf Labuschagne wants to thank all members who assisted with the organization and hard work, all the clubs and special guests (some who travelled far), people who supported the tournament, and the wrestlers who gave their best to make it such a prestigeous event.
Centurion won the event with 37 Gold medals, 15 Silver and 12 Bronze to amass 242 points, more than three times as many points as Tuks who came second with 76 points. Menlopark came third with 68 points. The event was attended by 31 Clubs that included participation of a wrestler from USA and two from Russia.

Centurion produces (another) Africa Champion
Centurion club is celebrating the Gold medal won by Jaco van Staden at the Junior Africa Championships that took place in Cairo on 25 - 27 June. Two other wrestlers from CSG went to Egypt, Johan Potgieter won Silver and Sloane Goosen won Bronze. Congratulations Jaco, Johan and Sloane, you have made us so very proud.
SA Presidente Kampioenskappe - Ellisras 11 tot 12 Junie 2010
As klub wen Centurion meer medaljes as alle ander provinsies! (Noord Guateng uitgesluit) Centurion stoeiers het deelgeneem aan die SA Presidente Kampioenskappe wat vanaf 11 tot 12 Junie in Ellisras gehou was, puik aangebied by Mogol Klub. Alom bekend as die taaiste byeenkoms van die jaar, verskil die Presidente kampioenskap van gewone vrystyl daarin dat daar nie volgens ouderdom gedifferensieer word nie, en stoeiers van verskillende ouderdomme kan teen mekaar stoei, solank hulle in dieselfde gewigs-kategorie val. Danksy volgehoue toewyding en harde werk, het Centurion uitstekend gevaar! Die stoeiers, ouers en klub bestuur wil ons afrigters ook bedank vir hulle vindingrykheid, deursettingsvermoe, toewyding en geduld met die voorbereiding van die stoeiers, en hulle geluk wens met wat hulle daardeur bereik het - 5 Nasionale kampioene, en 14 medalje-wenners van een klub - CSG!.

CSG skuif na Noord Gauteng A-Liga in 2010.
Die onsekerheid wat bestaan het onder klubs in Noord Gauteng aangaande hoe die Stoei Liga in 2010 daar uit sal sien, is uit die weg geruim met die ontvangs van 'n skrywe nanaf NGS op 25 Mei. Volgens hierdie skrywe is daar besluit dat die liga in 2010 as volg sal lyk:

Centurion oordonder NGS Presidente Vrystyl Stoei – 15 Mei 2010
Stoeiers van CSG het die Gauteng Noord Presidente Kampioenskappe wat op 15 Mei 2010 was gehou was, totaal oorheers. Hierdie Kampioenskappe lewer sekerlik die sterkste kompetisie op in ons streek, en CSG het 13 Goue, 4 Silwer en 1 Brons medalje verower. In Vrystyl het CSG 12 van die 16 goue medaljes ingepalm, en met 73 punte, meer punte as al die ander klubs saam verwerf. In drie van die finale was beide stoeiers van CSG. Centurion se voorsitter, Roelf Labuschagne het die volgende boodskap: "Briljant en wel gedaan - ons is trots op ons stoeiers, afrigters, bestuur en beamptes."
Stoeiers moes aan hierdie toernooi deelneem om in aanmerking te kom vir die NGS span wat later die jaar aan die SA Presidente kampioenskappe gaan deelneem. Noord-Gauteng Presidente kleure word slegs aan stoeiers toegeken indien hy/sy ‘n medalje op die SA Presidente Toernooi kry, wat op sy beurt deurslaggewind is vir die verkiesing van oorsese toerspanne.
Die Presidente reeks stoeikompetisies word aangebied in Vrystyl, Grieks-Romeins en Dames afdelings, en verskil van gewone kompetisies aangesien ouderdom van stoeiers nie in ag geneem word nie – slegs gewig.
Sien asb. die NGS Inligtingstuk vir spesifieke inligting rondom Noord-Gauteng toernooie en ook die prosedure indien ‘n stoeier nie aan die toernooi kan deelneem nie en in aanmerking wil kom om gekies te word vir die NG span wat aan die SA Presidente gaan deelneem. Dit bepaal dat ‘n stoeier wat in aanmerking wil kom om SA Presidente te stoei, móét inskryf vir die NG Presidente Kampioenskappe, en dan óf deelneem óf ‘n mediese sertifikaat inlewer, die oggend van die kompetisie.
Centurion Wrestling enters the Greco-Roman Arena - 1 May
Both Centurion Wrestling Gymnasium wrestlers that entered the South African Greco-Roman Championships in Cape Town, returned with Silver medals. Congratulations to Francois de Wit and Eric van Eeden - you have done us proud!
Centurion stoeiers kry medaljes op Afrika Kampioenskappe - 26 April
In die Afrika Kampioenskappe wat van 22 tot 25 April in Kairo plaasgevind het, vaar die span van Suid Afrika nie baie goed nie, en kon slegs twee goue medaljes verower - die span het wel algeheel 2de gekom. Baie geluk aan Andries Schutte en Bokang Masunjane - ons is trots op ons Afrika kampioene. Lande wat verteenwoordig was Algiers, Nigerie, Egipte, Kenia, Marokko, Tunisie en Namibie.

Bond vir Oud-stoeiers op Facebook!
Oud-stoeiers word uitgenooi om op Facebook aan te sluit by Noord Gauteng Bond van Oud-stoeiers. Die bond is nie net vir oud stoeiers nie, maar ook vir oud Noord-Gauteng (Noord-Transvaal) -beamptes, afrigters, admin-beamptes, spanbestuurders en enige ander ampsdraers. Die doel is om die stoei gemeenskap van Noord-Gauteng weer te herenig en ‘n kommunikasie netwerk in werking te stel om o.a. die sport ook te bemark. Dankie Sharon!
Wie het belang by Gradering?
Die SA-graderingstoernooi vind binnekort op 19 en 20 Februarie plaas. Indien jy ooit vir 'n toerspan gekies wil word, of internasionaal vir SA wil stoei, is Gradering belangrik. (Soos Youth Olympics in Singapore in Augustus 2010) Dit vorm deel van die kriteria wat jou verkiesbaar stel, en bepaal die rang-orde van stoeiers per gewig-kategorie. Dit is dus van belang vir almal wat genomineer wil word om in spanverband internasionaal te stoei... meer hier.
Amateur Wrestling Styles simplified
Amateur wrestling is decended from an ancient form of the sport dating back about 5000 years, and is the most widespread form of sport wrestling today. 
There are two international wrestling styles performed in the Olympic Games under the supervision of FILA (Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées or International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles): Greco-Roman and Freestyle. Freestyle is possibly derived from the English Lancashire style. A similar style, commonly called Collegiate (also known as Scholastic or Folk-style), is practiced in colleges, universities and schools in the United States. Grappling is a collection of lesser known wrestling disciplines or styles. Scientific Wrestling (aka Catch-As-Catch-Can wrestling, or Catch Wrestling) is a distinctly American and Western European style of grappling and set of rules where the winner is determined by submission or pin.

South African Men wins Commonwealth Youth Wrestling Championships in Singapore 7/8 January 2010!
Young men from South Africa are a wrestling force to be reckoned with, as they beat Canada with 60 points to 37 in Singapore from 7 to 8 January 2010! Our own Alex Bornman coming home with a Silver medal in the 54 Kg group - Well Done Alex!
